CHRISTUS Health is joining forces with Tyler-based Athlete Performance Enhancement Center (APEC) as part of its ongoing commitment to expand access and enhance health care services for the community.

The purchase agreement is effective Oct. 20 and allows CHRISTUS to expand its wide range of specialized services, including physical therapy, athletic training and strength and conditioning programs.

“APEC has been a highly respected organization in the region for many years, sharing our values and commitment to patient-first care,” said Jason Proctor, president of CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System. “When they approached us, we jumped at the opportunity to expand not just our footprint, but also the impact we can make on people’s lives, especially athletes, active adults and those in need of personalized recovery programs.”

Existing patients of APEC will continue to receive care from familiar providers, who will be backed by the clinical resources, expertise and care network of CHRISTUS Health.

Founded in 2005, APEC began as a training center for athletes with a core concentration on speed development, training a number of high-profile athletes that include two-time NFL MVP and three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes. Former MLB pitchers Josh Tomlin and Philip Humber also trained there, as well as other well-known professional and collegiate athletes from East Texas.

“As part of the East Texas community, we are excited to work with CHRISTUS and expand APEC’s reach across the region in partnership with a cornerstone organization,” said Brandon Stroupe, president of APEC. “Working together and sharing resources will help expand access in East Texas to one of the premier sports performance facilities in the country.”
