Rhinoplasty
Nose Surgery
Rhinoplasty, commonly called a “nose job”, reshapes the nose to improve facial balance and harmony. It can address both cosmetic concerns, such as a nasal hump or drooping tip, and functional issues, like a deviated septum that affects breathing.
Why Consider Rhinoplasty?
- Refine the nasal tip or bridge
- Reduce the appearance of a bump or hump
- Improve symmetry and proportion with other facial features
- Correct structural issues for better breathing
Types of Rhinoplasty
- Open Rhinoplasty: Provides direct visibility of nasal structures for precise correction; most commonly performed for detailed reshaping.
- Closed (Endonasal) Rhinoplasty: Performed entirely inside the nostrils; may be an option for more limited adjustments.
The best technique depends on your anatomy, goals, and the changes desired. Your surgeon will recommend the most appropriate approach during your consultation.
Consultation
- Review of your medical history and goals for surgery
- Evaluation of nasal structure, skin quality, and facial proportions
- Discussion of realistic expectations—your nose will be reshaped within the limits of your unique anatomy
- Photos may be taken and digitally altered to help visualize potential results (actual outcomes may vary)
Rhinoplasty is one of the most complex cosmetic procedures, with final results often taking 10 - 12 months to fully emerge as swelling resolves.
The Procedure
Rhinoplasty is typically performed in an outpatient surgical facility under anesthesia. For an open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made at the base of the nose and inside each nostril to access underlying structures. Once corrections are complete, the skin is repositioned and a nasal splint is applied.
- Sutures and splint are usually removed after about one week
- Initial recovery involves head elevation, rest, and ice packs
- Bruising, especially under the eyes, is common for the first week
- Most swelling subsides within 4 - 6 weeks, but subtle swelling can persist for months
- Strenuous activities and any contact with the nose should be avoided for several weeks

Chin Augmentation
Chin augmentation is sometimes also recommended, as this is an area that is commonly deficient when rhinoplasty is needed.
